This fast-paced zombie mini-epic is very likely the most expensive movie ever shot on Super-8 film. Playing with the long-established mythos of George A. Romero's Living Dead trilogy, The Dead Next Door was produced with the help of many of the Evil Dead crew: financial backer Sam Raimi is credited as "Master Cylinder" and one of the characters is named after him; Evil Dead co-writer Scott Spiegel plays a role; and some character voices are dubbed by Bruce Campbell. The story centers on the members of the "Zombie Squad" -- an assault team trained in the hunting and extermination of the living dead -- and their mission to track down the scientists who developed a zombie-making virus and find the rumored antidote. Of the many lethal obstacles in their path, the deadliest comes in the form of a religious cult whose leader sees the zombie epidemic as a precursor of Armageddon -- and is hell-bent on expediting it. Very stylish for what is essentially an epic-scale home movie (and gushing with plentiful home-style gore effects), this remains Bookwalter's best effort and contains numerous witty homages to the Romero films which inspired it.

George accidentally hits and severely injures a deer that ran onto the icy road; after George stops to inspect the damage, he's confronted by an angry local named Otis who flies into a rage, telling George that he and his fellow hunters had been tracking the deer for some time. An argument breaks out, which leaves George feeling deeply shaken. When George and Kim arrive at their cabin, they discover that it's next door to Otis' property, and they soon find that a dark and intimidating presence seems to have taken over the cottage. Since, when they stopped at a store en route to the cabin, a shopkeeper told Miles about the legend of the Wendigo, a beast from Indian folklore who is half-man, half-deer, and can change itself at will, the child begins to wonder if the creature might have something to do with his family's sudden misfortune.

In the sequel to the hit movie When a Stranger Calls, Carol Kane and Charles Durning reprise their roles as they find themselves in the midst of another stalker. A young girl, Julia, falls victim to a 'stranger' who torments her while babysitting two young kids one evening. Eventually it is discovered that the stranger, who initially appeared at the door asking to call the auto club to get help with his car, was actually inside the house and had abducted the two children. The film moves forward several years where Julia, who was traumatized by the whole experience, is now an introverted college student and becomes convinced that the stalker has returned and is haunting her. Jill Johnson (Carol Kane), now a counsellor helping troubled teens and John Clifford (now retired) come to the aid of Julia to help her find the stalker when no one else believes her. Having been through the same situation years earlier Jill and a reluctant John investigate and eventually track down the killer in a surprise ending that revolves around who the killer is and how he can 'disappear' from sight.
